Pushkar Lake in Rajasthan is the sacred lake of Hindus. Located near the town of Pushkar in Ajmer District, This holy lake stands as one of the five most sacred pilgrimage destinations for the Hindus in India. According to the legends, this lake got its existence after the petals of Lotus dropped from the hand of God Brahma into the Pushkar Valley. Thousands of pilgrims come here to bathe in the waters of the lake during the festival of Kaartika Poornima in November.
Encircled by five hundred temples, Pushkar Lake has 52 ghats, which connect the temples to the water. These ghats were constructed by the rulers of the different past princely states of Rajasthan and some of them got named after the states.
In Pushkar, prominent ghats among all the ghats are as Varaha Ghat, the Dadhich Ghat, Saptarishi Ghats, Gwalior Ghat, Kota Ghat, Gau ghat, Yag Ghat, Jaipur Ghat, Karni Ghat and Gangaur Ghat. It is believed that a dip at the lake on the auspicious day gets equal to the penances done for one hundred years.
