It is the chief attraction and the synonymous of Pushkar Fair where cattle breeders from several regions of India come to sell their cattle. During the fair cattle are sold or bought.� Some of the cattle which are sold or bought are camels, horses, cows, goats, dogs, buffaloes, sheep and several species of birds. There may be long-drawn negotiations, or sometimes, a quick transaction while buying and selling. In this fair one can find various popular cattle breeds such as Haryanvi, Kankrej, Nagauri Mewati, etc. During the cattle trading sellers praise cattle strength and display it so they can allure buyers at wished rates. The skills of negotiations and bargaining of selling can be best seen here which sometimes become hilarious or sometimes converted into altercations.
During the festival decorative items for cattle like saddles, saddle-straps and beads are sold. One can also buy jewelry, garments, silver ornaments, bead necklaces etc. for their cattle during the fair.
Pushkar fair is known as the center stage of camel trading because mass trading of camel takes place. Camels are the focal point of cattle trading with other livestock. Camel traders and the villagers from faraway places flock to Pushkar with several breeds of humped beasts. More than 25,000 camels are traded in Pushkar which makes it the largest trading zone of camels in the world. Camels are decorated beautifully by their owners who look beautiful in their colorful attires which attract buyers.
The camels traded here are known for their fitness and fetch high prices. One can see some of the most handsome thoroughbred camels here. Many prospective traders trekked from the nearby states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir and stay here for few days so they can do cattle trading.
